The Walk for Life and the Famously Hot Pink Half Marathon + 5K is Prisma Health Midlands Foundation's signature fundraising event benefiting Prisma Health Breast Centers in Columbia, S.C. For more than three decades, thousands of people have helped raise more than $12 million to fund the latest in digital mammography technology and enhance programs and services for breast cancer patients and their families. 

Proceeds from the 2024 Walk for Life & Famously Hot Pink Half Marathon + 5K will be used to replace the last 2D mammography unit at Prisma Health Baptist Parkridge to a Hologic Clarity HD™ High Resolution 3D™ Mammography Imaging Unit. This imaging unit is the latest, most innovative mammography unit on the market. With a 3.7 second scan time, the Hologic Clarity HD™ High Resolution 3D™ Imaging Unit has the fastest scan time in the industry. In addition, the unit is designed to reduce read time in radiology, and a radiologist can read 15% more cases per hour.

The new mammography unit will be the second unit at Prisma Health Breast Centers in the Midlands, and the third in South Carolina. Prisma’s first Hologic Clarity HD™ High Resolution 3D™ Mammography Imaging Unit located at Prisma Health’s Richland campus was purchased with proceeds from previous Walk for Life fundraising. With the highest resolution in 3D imaging, having the best technology available at our sites throughout the Midlands is vital for early detection and quality.

Proceeds will also continue to provide educational materials for teaching patients and the community about breast cancer and the importance of early detection, “breast bears” for compression after surgery, post-mastectomy camisoles to women with breast cancer, and materials for Nurse Navigators who help every diagnosed breast cancer patient navigate their care and recovery. 

All registrations include an event T-shirt. Registered breast cancer survivors will be given a survivor’s hat. Take a photo, post it on your social channels and include #Pink4Prisma.

Note: Walk for Life registration fees will stay the same through Oct. 2024. The 5K race will increase to $50 and the Kids Fun Run will increase to $20 on Sept. 13, 2024.
