30 years of promise. 30 years of hope. 30 years of innovation. 30 years of motivation.
In October 1991, when 200 people took steps against breast cancer at the first Walk for Life in Columbia, S.C., we knew something big was happening. Our community was coming together to stop breast cancer in its tracks, and history was being made right before our eyes.
Each October, we have met thousands of walkers, runners and supporters in person to lift up those who are facing cancer and celebrate those who have beaten it. It’s been an incredible outpouring of love! Event participants are family, and we put you first. Many who participate in Walk for Life and Famously Hot Pink Half Marathon have immune systems that have been affected by cancer. In consideration of the anticipated ongoing COVID-19 public health emergency this fall, we don’t want to put anyone’s health at risk by gathering in person this October.
We don’t have to be together to be together. Let’s go virtual and kick breast cancer to the curb for Prisma Health Breast Center!
Saturday, Oct. 3 will be the virtual kick-off of a month-long effort to show our support for those who are facing breast cancer. When you sign up to walk or run in the half marathon, 5K or 10K, you’ll receive a shirt, a sticker and other goodies. Half marathon registrants will receive a finisher’s medal. Your registration fee is a donation that will help patients and families who are facing cancer in our community.
