My personal breast cancer journey began in May 2022 when a routine mammogram showed a shadow on the upper outer quadrant of my right breast near my armpit. After multiple repeat mammograms, the radiologist just was not satisfied, and I had an ultrasound. After a biopsy and a lumpectomy for DCIS, which did not have clear margins, I opted for an MRI, which identified two more areas of concern. One turned out to be another DCIS, the other was invasive ductal carcinoma. I’ve now had a double mastectomy and I finished chemo in February 2023. None of this was clearly visible on mammogram.
Ladies, please don’t skip mammograms. Please don’t skip mammograms because they’re painful. I shudder to think what could have been if the radiologist wasn’t persistent or if I had skipped just one mammogram. And I am so grateful to all of the survivors who are an inspiration to me. I am so thankful for all of their experience and the advice they have shared with me. And I am so thankful for all those who keep lifting me up in their prayers.
Thank you for taking steps against breast cancer. All proceeds from the Walk for Life and Famously Hot Pink Half Marathon, 5K & 10K will benefit Prisma Health Breast Center in the Midlands. Your contribution is greatly appreciated
